Ellen Gould White
1827-1915
Mrs. White was born Ellen Gould Harmon, November 26, 1827, in Gorham Maine, near Portland, to which the family eventually moved. Ellen was raised
in an industrious and fervent Methodist family. But in 1843 the Harmon family had to sever from the Methodist Church, in favor and light of the
Advent message, exhorting of the soon coming of Christ, and the great need for the essential preparation before that solemn and joyous event. On
August 30, 1846, Ellen Harmon was married to James White. Not long after being married she and her husband realized the importance of keeping the
seventh day Sabbath according to the fourth commandment, and the example of the Lord Jesus Christ. So in the autumn of 1846 the Whites began to
keep the seventh day Sabbath, as it is written: "Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy...the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God..."—
Exodus 20:8, 10. We hope you enjoy reading from the writings of this exemplary Christian woman.
